   Cultural deeds

Saguenay, August 21, 2006 – Outside of the Festival programming, ManiganSes initiates a series of cultural deeds in the community that are intended for families, schools, artists and the ever growing public throughout the entire year.

By means of mystery, public participation and the festival, ManiganSes produced l’Entre-deux ManiganSes in 2005, an original event that is animated and inspired by the theatre, puppets, objects and masks. Prepared by artists of the area and from elsewhere, developed with students from the Ateliers d’arts plastiques de Jonquière, produced with the collaboration of cultural organizations and the business community, l’Entre-deux ManiganSes allowed the population to discover puppet arts at the festival. It is an event that will be held again!

The ManiganSes sensitization activities are also intended to bring young spectators closer to the puppet art that is in full expansion. Various educational projects, school workshops, meetings, training courses and teaching aids were produced:

“Petit train va loin”, a 2005 school project with the Sainte-Claire school in Chicoutimi; workshops and training activities with the students of the Marie-Reine-du-Clergé school in the Lac-St-Jean region; the presentation of ”La malédiction de Darwin”, a play that was entirely produced by the students of the high school Sports-Arts-Studies programme and managed by the Ateliers d’Arts Plastiques de Jonquière.

ManiganSes gives special importance to coming artists. To support their emergence, some projects will be honoured at the Festival: “À moi”, a play by Mexican author Amarantha Leyva and produced by the students of the Ateliers d’Arts Plastiques de Jonquière, will be presented at the Alcan giant tent.

Another ManiganSes cultural deed is the integration of the stage arts and trades study programme students of the École polyvalente de Jonquière into the Festival activities. Being with professionals from the performing arts will enable them to be at the core of the intense Festival activities and to get a better understanding of the artist’s work.

The exploration map, a tool intended for teachers, was developed especially by ManiganSes to enable the teachers to integrate the plays that are presented at the festival in their teaching projects
